One of the things that most great golfers have in common, whether they are a Tour player or the best player at your local club, is a healthy amount of confidence. The players who are truly good at the sport have confidence that has been earned and not just bluster that you might find from some frustrated golfers. Having confidence actually helps these good players to do better when they are playing.  So, you might be wondering just how you are supposed to develop confidence that can carry over to when you are playing. Fortunately, there are several things you will be able to do that can help.

Stop Being Self-Critical

As much as you love the game, it is important that you never take things so seriously that you are overly critical of yourself when you are playing, and even after the game. Once you let your mind get into that space of being critical, you will start to rethink everything that you are doing and all of that practice will go out the window. You will keep making bad shots, continue to get upset, and have an even worse game. Don’t obsess over a bad shot or even a bad game. Instead, you want to focus on the things that you are doing well, even if they might seem rather minor or inconsequential at the time.

See Success in Your Mind’s Eye

Visualization is a technique that is used in many different sports, and it really does work well. You have put in the practice and you know how to play. You simply need to visualize yourself doing well and hitting the ball where it needs to go. This doesn’t mean that it’s a magical cure for the game, but it does mean that if you are able to visualize success each time you hit the ball, you will be coming at each hole with more confidence.

Keep Practicing

Of course, one of the best things you can do in order to gain confidence on the golf course is to practice as much as possible. The more you practice and play in varied conditions and on different courses the more confident you will feel whenever you play.

These are a few of the things that you will want to do and think about if you want to develop more confidence when you are playing golf.
