It’s unfortunate, but many of these myths can end up becoming so pervasive that many people simply start to reiterate them and pass them along as truths. Myth #1: Golf Is All Mental
The reason this tends to be one of the most commonly told myths about golf is that there is actually some truth to it. Golf is a very mental game in a lot of respects. Golfers need to think about a substantial number of things whenever they are playing the game or even practicing. They need to think about the conditions on the course, the wind and weather, and more. They need to focus on making improvements from a mental standpoint.
However, you can’t forget the physical importance that goes into the game of golf. Although being mentally prepared to play is important, it is also important to make sure that you are in the right physical shape to play. If you are out of shape, you will find that many aspects of your game will suffer severely. It could slow you down on the course, weaken your swing, and cause other problems.
Instead of thinking of golf as only mental, as so many people do, you need to realize that there is an unbreakable connection between the mind and the body in this game.
Myth #2: Everyone Should Have the Same Exact Swing
While there are some commonalities that tend to be present in the swings of good golfers across the board, this certainly does not mean that the swings should all be the same. Different golfers who are committed to getting better will develop a swing that works for them. This might not look like the swing of their friends who they are golfing with or their favorite golfer. However, if you take the time to go through and look at the swings of one or two dozen pro golfers throughout the history of the sport, you are going to find quite a few different types of swings that work well for that golfer.Learn the basics and find the swing that will work best for you.
Myth #3: You Can Only Learn in Person
There is also the belief that the only way that you can learn how to play better golf is in-person, but this is being proven wrong on a daily basis. There are many people who are learning from articles and videos online and finding ways that they can greatly improve their skills. The only way you will not get better at golf is by learning from poor sources or not practicing at all. Finding quality online instructors can provide players with the motivation and the knowledge they need.
These are just three of the most myths that tend to be associated with golf today. Before you believe any myths, do yourself a favor and research a bit more.
