One of the great things about the game of golf is that just about anyone will be able to pick up or rent a set of clubs, get out onto a local golf course, and start playing. With a little bit of training and knowledge, it is possible for people to get to the point where they can enjoy a round with their friends and have a great time. However, because golf is such a popular game and because it is accessible, many people feel that it’s an easy game.
The act of hitting a ball with a club might be simple, but anyone who has played for any length of time knows that a lot more goes into it than that. However, once many golfers start playing on a regular basis, they start to get into their minds that they need to be as good as the professional Tour players out there. After all, they can buy the same equipment and they can play on great courses… why wouldn’t they end up being as good as the pros?
We’ve all had those dreams of being able to become a professional golfer and make a living off of the sport. We think that with a bit more practice, we can become more consistent and improve the game to a professional level. However, it is never a good idea to compare yourself to a Tour player. The professionals have advantages that most people don’t have. These advantages are often in the form of physical talents that the vast majority of people simply don’t possess. In addition, they have more time to play and practice than most people, not to mention an easier time of getting the funds needed for more training and coaching from professionals.
You also need to keep in mind that you are often seeing professionals at the top of their game. Even then, despite the great shots and impossible putts that they make, they can still make mistakes. You shouldn’t sweat it if you make mistakes, too.
This isn’t to say that you don’t have the physical gifts and talents to become a professional player. You might. However, you do not want to constantly compare yourself to pro golfers, as this can cause you to develop an unhealthy mindset. Instead, you want to make sure that you are working to improve your own skills and talents in the sport, so you can be the best golfer that you can be. This will take off the pressure and help to ensure that the game is fun, as it always should be.
